Oklahoma shuts down struggling district

From The Muskogee Phoenix: The Oklahoma State Board of Education has decided to shut down the Boynton-Moton school district. A state reports says the district had the lowest Academic Performance Index score, which is based on student assessments in mathematics, reading and science. The district also has had financial problems for many years; the high school was closed in fall 2010 because of a lack of funding. The district will cease operations on June 30, and students probably will be divided between the Haskell and Midway districts. Midway schools are seven miles from Boynton, and Haskell schools are 13 miles away.
