: The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation has announced the five school districts that are finalists for the 2010 Broad Prize for Urban Education
, an annual award that honors urban school districts making the greatest progress in raising student achievement. They are: Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.) Schools
; Gwinnett County (Ga.) Public Schools
; Montgomery County (Md.) Public Schools
; Socorro (Texas) Independent School District
; and Ysleta (Texas) Independent School District
. The winner of The Broad Prize, to be announced in October, will receive $1 million in college scholarships for high school seniors graduating in 2011. Each of the other four districts will receive $250,000 in college scholarships.
