Broad Prize goes to Gwinnett County (Ga.) schools

News release: The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation has announced the five school districts that are finalists for the 2010 Broad Prize for Urban Education, an annual award that honors urban school districts making the greatest progress in raising student achievement. They are: Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.) Schools; Gwinnett County (Ga.) Public Schools; Montgomery County (Md.) Public Schools; Socorro (Texas) Independent School District; and Ysleta (Texas) Independent School District. The winner of The Broad Prize, to be announced in October, will receive $1 million in college scholarships for high school seniors graduating in 2011. Each of the other four districts will receive $250,000 in college scholarships.
