Broward County (Fla.) district may face fines for removing trees

From The South Florida Sun-Sentinel: The destruction of about a dozen mahogany trees at Fort Lauderdale High School has the Broward County (Fla.) School District facing a fine of up to $15,000 for each tree it removed in violation of city codes. Neighbors call the district's action a tree massacre. The city has cited the school district for removing the trees without a permit and for never getting a permit for any of the construction work being done at the school.
