From The Miami Herald: Five weeks after vowing not to resign amid criticism over his leadership, Broward County (Fla.) Schools Superintendent Jim Notter has announced that he will retire on June 30 — three years before his contract expires. His early retirement from the $299,000-a-year job comes on the heels of a state grand jury report; the arrests of two School Board members and years of labor disputes with the Broward Teachers Union. Notter, 64, insisted his decision was unrelated to the controversy.

February 2011....from The Miami Herald: A 51-page report from a statewide grand jury has blasted the management of the Broward County (Fla.) School District for a culture of corruption, malfeasance and "reckless spending of taxpayer money." The report also criticizes Superintendent Jim Notter, saying he was not strong enough in leading the district. The panel asserts is so riddled with problems, the only solution is to appoint an outside monitor for the district.
