Brown University to build Creative Arts Center

$40 million facility will open in 2011

News release: Brown University in Providence, R.I., will begin construction next month on its new Creative Arts Center. The $40 million building is slated to open in the spring of 2011. The 35,000-square-foot facility will feature a 200-seat recital hall and 35-mm screening facility, three flexible production spaces, a recording studio, multimedia lab, technical shop, and a physical media lab for production and research in sensors, robotics, and physical computing. The building also will have individual project studios, an art gallery, "smart" classrooms, and "living rooms," designed as breakout spaces for students and faculty. The architect is Diller Scofidio + Renfro.
