California community colleges can't keep up

Enrollment in California's community colleges rose by nearly 10 percent last fall, and a similar increase is expected in the spring, but that state has not been able to keep up with the demand because of its staggering budget burden. Jack Scott, the state's new chancellor of the community college system, says campuses may have to trim 5 percent of classes because of inadequate funding, making it difficult to meet the mandate to accept all applicants.
