California lawmakers restore $248 million in school transportation funds

Feb. 3, 2012
Small, rural districts had argued the money was critical for them

From The Los Angeles Times: School buses are likely to keep rolling in California for now, as the legislature restored $248 million for home-to-school transportation that is crucial for small and rural school districts that need to take students across long distances. Educators throughout California had mobilized against the midyear elimination of busing money, arguing that it would hit remote districts hardest. To restore the $248 million, legislators agreed to cut districts' per-pupil funding by $42 per student.
