California State University enrollment will be capped

10,000 fewer students will be allowed to enroll next year at the system's 23 campuses

About 10,000 fewer students will be allowed to enroll next fall in the California State University system than are currently attending its 23 campuses. Chancellor Charles Reed says the total number of full-time and part-time students at CSU campuses is about 460,000. He plans to cap enrollment at about 450,000. Each campus will have a set total. The chancellor blames a combination of crowding and underfunding for the "degrading quality" of the nation's largest four-year public university system.
