Nine Catholic schools to close in Camden, N.J.

The Diocese of Camden, N.J., announced this week that nine Catholic elementary schools would close in June. Parents and administrators say they have been bracing themselves for the announcement, well aware that some schools would be shuttered because of declining enrollment and rising deficits. Enrollment at elementary schools in the six-county diocese has plummeted by almost a third since 2001, from 14,954 to 10,883.
