Charter schools grow, but at a slower rate

More than 4,100 charter schools served more than 1.24 million students in 2007-08, according to The Center for Education Reform's Annual Survey of America's Charter Schools. The report notes that the number of charter campuses increased 9 percent in 2007-08, a lower growth rate attributed to "artificial constraints placed on the market in the form of charter school caps and moratoriums on new schools."
