District says it has secured enough state and county funding to restore jobs that were at risk

From The Charlotte Observer: After months of speculation about massive layoffs, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.) school board says it expects to get enough county and state money to stop hundreds of teacher cuts. The board voted to restore 570 positions cut from its 2011-12 budget. The announcement pleased teachers, but brought a rebuke from a county official who accused district officials of overstating its crisis to get more money. Still being cut: 255 teachers on short-term, expiring contracts, and 127 with performance or licensure problems. It still isn't clear whether 300-plus teacher assistants will remain laid off. That depends on the outcome of state budget deliberations.
