EARLIER...from The Charlotte Observer: Charlotte-Mecklenburg County (N.C.) Schools Superintendent Peter Gorman has recommended cutting more than 1,500 jobs to bridge a $100 million budget gap. The 1,500 jobs would represent about 9 percent of the district's 16,000 employees. Gorman didn't immediately specify how many of the cuts are teaching positions.
