From The Charlotte Observer: Almost three weeks after Superintendent Peter Gorman's resignation, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.) school board has named Chief Operating Officer Hugh Hattabaugh as interim leader. Hattabaugh will not be a candidate for the top post. He joined the district in July 2007 as an area superintendent. Before that, he was a deputy superintendent in the Little Rock (Ark.) school system. Hattabaugh's pay will rise from about $176,000 to $190,000 during his term as interim superintendent. He also is eligible for a lump sum payment of $35,000 when his interim role ends.

School Superintendent Peter Gorman, brought in five years ago to improve the reputation and classroom performance of Schools, says he is quitting. Gorman is going to work a senior vice president for a newly created education division of News Corp.
