Charlotte schools reduce water use

District responds because of drought conditions.

Officials with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.) School District say they are doing their part to comply with calls for the public to cut the use of water because of a worsening drought. The district has taken several steps: using disposable plates and utensils in cafeterias, when possible, to cut the amount of dishwashing; repairing water leaks immediately; and eliminating car washes as school fund raising events.
