From The Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette: The Fort Wayne-South Bend (Ind.) Catholic Diocese is re-evaluating plans to buy a closed elementary school because a charter school group says the deal violates state law. The diocese had planned to buy Monroeville Elementary School, which the East Allen County School District closed last year, and use it to house students from a school that's in need of repair. The Indiana Public Charter Schools Association contends that the sale violates a 2011 law that requires districts to place unused buildings on an Indiana Department of Education list, where they must stay for 48 months, unless the district plans to reclaim the schools. During that time, approved charter schools can buy or lease the school for $1.
