In response to a spate of violent student deaths last year, Chicago schools and city officials are poised to launch an anti-violence campaign that keeps students on school grounds longer. The $26 million campaign, funded in part by $14.2 million in federal grants, will include expanded sports, after-school and "community school" programs. All of the initiatives seek to provide a safe haven for students immediately following school dismissal, when many are without supervision.
