Freshmen at 11 additional Chicago public high schools will get a more challenging curriculum, new computer labs and better trained teachers, thanks to an expansion of the high school transformation plan funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Last year, the program started small -- with the freshman class at 14 high schools -- funded by a $21 million grant from the Gates Foundation. Year two will add eight neighborhood and specialty high schools and three schools scheduled to open this fall under the school system's Renaissance 2010 program.
