Chicago students descend on suburb to protest education inequities

About 1,400 African-American students fromChicago Public Schools flooded the affluent, mostly white New Trier High School freshman campus in north suburban Northfield Tuesday to protest inequities in school funding. About 100 staff and volunteers stood ready inside the Northfield campus building to process students -- a largely symbolic event because the Chicago students would need to have proof of residency in the district to attend classes there. New Trier officials said an estimated 950 Chicago students tried to register.
