Clark County (Nev.) board approves extension for EdisonLearning Inc.

For-profit company manages 7 schools in the district

From The Las Vegas Sun: More than a decade of lackluster student performance didn't prevent the Clark County (Nev.) School Board from renewing a $7.6 million contract with EdisonLearning Inc. The for-profit education management company operates seven schools in Las Vegas, and the contract with six of those schools was set to expire June 30. Persuaded by passionate supporters and a petition with 2,000 parent signatures, the board voted 5 to 1 to approve a two-year contract. School Board member Carolyn Edwards — the sole dissenting voice — says she doesn't understand why the district is continuing its partnership with Edison in light of its tainted history and record in Las Vegas.
