Bill seeks to study breaking up Las Vegas system

A majority on a Nevada Senate panel signaled support for a study and timeline to break up the steadily growing Clark County School District. The show of support came despite concerns there is no evidence that breaking up the huge school system in and of itself would improve student achievement. Clark County is the nation's fifth-largest school system and has more than 300,000 students. One lawmaker says the centralization of authority and decision making in the district has harmed morale.
