Student gunman has died from self-inflicted wounds

From The Green Bay Gazette: Students have returned to class at Marinette High School in Marinette, Wis., two days after another student took a class hostage. The students remain puzzled about why Sam Hengel, a 15-year-old sophomore, brought two guns to school on Monday, took a classroom of students and a teacher hostage and held police at bay for six hours before authorities say he turned the gun on himself. Hengel died Tuesday from his injuries.

EARLIER...from The Green Bay Gazette: A 15-year-old student has potentially life-threatening injuries after he shot himself during a five-hour standoff with police at Marinette High School in Marinette, Wis. The student, a sophomore at the high school, shot himself when authorities entered the classroom Monday night after hearing three gunshots. At the time, 18 students and a teacher remained in the classroom. Five hostages had been released earlier. Marinette, a town of about 12,000 people, is north of Green Bay on the border with Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The high school has about 800 students.
