Study says more than half of high school students are in overcrowded classrooms

More than a third of the New York City public school students - and more than half of all high school kids - are in overcrowded classrooms, a report shows. The city would have to create more than 167,000 new seats, far more than its current 63,000 target, to reach its own goals, according to the study.

ALSO: More than 5,000 vacant seats are still available for free universal prekindergarten programs in some areas of New York City, Council Speaker Christine Quinn says.
