Authorities say Michael Scott shot himself to death

From The Chicago Tribune: Waking to the news of the suicide of Chicago Board of Education President Michael Scott, the many people he encountered in his very public life struggled to reconcile the upbeat man they knew with the apparent despondency that eluded them, and now begs to be explained.

ALSO: Michael Scott had a history of public service in Chicago that dates back 30 years and spans four mayoral administrations. He gained a reputation as a consensus builder who shied away from the limelight and remained composed no matter the pressure.

Earlier from Chicagobreakingnews.com: A body tentatively identified as Michael Scott, president of the Chicago Board of Education, was found in the Chicago River Monday morning. A blue Cadillac registered to Scott, 60, was found parked next to a trash bin yards away from the river. Scott's family, concerned about his whereabouts, had contacted police Sunday night, reporting he was missing. UPDATE: Police say Scott shot himself in the head along the banks of the rirver.
