RFID tags on ID cards in New Canaan would enable officials to know where students are at all times

From The New Canaan Patch: School officials in New Canaan, Conn., say they're looking at using technology that would monitor about students' whereabouts. A so-called "Radio Frequency Identification", or "RFID" system uses radio waves and can be embedded into objects such as student ID cards, enabling monitors to see when carriers pass a designated point where the RFID tag is registered. Board of Education Chair Nick Williams says the primary purpose of the system would be to bolster student security. A local security company has applied for a grant from the National Science Foundation and has approached school officials about establishing a pilot program in New Canaan.
