Cranston, R.I., will pay $150,000 to ACLU over prayer banner at high school

From The Providence Journal: School and city officials in Cranston, R.I., have reached an agreement to pay $150,000 in legal fees to the Rhode Island Affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union, ending the protracted battle over a prayer banner that had been on display at Cranston High School West. The ACLU challenged the constitutionality of the display on behalf of an atheist student who said the prayer made her feel "ostracized." The banner had been glued to a wall in the school's auditorium. Workers excavated the prayer banner and a slab of the auditorium wall to comply with a federal judge's order.
