North Carolina court upholds powers of police at colleges with religious affiliations

Nov 11, 2011 2:26 PM

From DavidsonNews.net: The North Carolina Supreme Court has upheld the powers of campus police departments at religious affiliated colleges and universities to enforce state law. The state’s highest court ruled that police officers at Davidson College in Davidson, N.C., had the right to arrest a driver near campus on charges of driving while intoxicated and reckless driving. A state appeals court ruled in August 2010 that the institution’s campus police could not enforce state laws because Davidson is a religious institution.
