Deal clears way for student housing in Phoenix

Arizona State University project will house 1,300 students.

Phoenix has reached a tentative agreement with a business that had been standing in the way of a $150 million Arizona State University project that will house 1,300 students. Officials say they still are confident the housing and the nearby $71 million home for the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism will open in fall 2008 in downtown Phoenix as planned. The university is under pressure because the journalism school will bring an influx of undergraduate students who'll need the new housing.

Officials at the university's Tempe campus say they needed to tear down the building to make room for a new residence hall. (Arizona Republic)
