Dell donation will pay for Dallas school database

$5 million grant will give district instant access to students' academic records.

Dallas school educators will have instant access to student academic backgrounds – from preschool to graduation – thanks to a $5 million grant from the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation. The money will create a mega-database of student academic information and other district-related data that will be continually updated. It will allow educators to watch for learning patterns and keep closer track of the district's 158,000-plus students.
