Texas district shelves plans for new administration building

Officials in the DeSoto (Texas) district have shelved plans to build a new administration building, citing the recent economic downturn and unpredictable demographics. The proposed $9 million facility was not part of a $116 million school bond package voters passed in 2005. Instead, the board approved a public facility corporation to oversee construction of the building. The corporation would have retained ownership of the building and leased it to the school district.
