From The Detroit Free Press: The Detroit school board has officially fired embattled Superintendent Connie Calloway. The panel has voted to remove her immediately from paid administrative leave. The vote to uphold the board's December decision to fire Calloway comes after a Feb. 26 public hearing, during which Calloway accused some board members of corruption and micromanagement.
FROM FEBRUARY 2009: The ousted superintendent of Detroit Public Schools says the board that fired her did not allow her to do her job. At a public hearing contesting her dismissal, Connie Calloway suggested that board members and district staff thwarted her efforts to root out corruption. Calloway says the board gave her no training, no information on goals or priorities, and no details of investigations into millions of dollars in missing money. The board voted not to comment on the hearing; both sides will have seven days to present additional written evidence to support their arguments.

EARLIER: Ousted Detroit School Superintendent Connie Calloway will get a chance to make a case to regain her position during a public hearing tonight that could be a precursor to a court battle. The Detroit school board voted 7-4 to in December fire Calloway, citing financial crises that resulted in the governor appointing an emergency manager to take over the DPS budget.
