Detroit superintendent, other district administrators, gets non-renewal notices

Teresa Gueyser has remained in job even though the emergency financial manager removed her authority over administrators

From The Detroit Free Press: Detroit Public Schools Superintendent Teresa Gueyser has received a pink slip from the district's emergency financial manager, Robert Bobb, placing the leadership structure in the district further in question. Gueyser is not alone -- every administrator has received either a non-renewal notice or a layoff notice, a district spokesman says. The process enables the financially troubled district to shed excess salaries and hire back staff as needed. Gueyser, whose contract is set to expire June 30, has remained employed by the district even though Bobb removed her authority over administrators soon after his arrival in 2009. Bobb directed administrators to report to consultant Barbara Byrd-Bennett, former CEO for Cleveland schools.
