In Detroit, city and school police form alliance

City and school police in Detroit have established a new partnership aimed at deterring crime in and around schools. The school police officers now have direct access to the radio and reporting systems used by the Detroit Police Department. As a result, school officials will no longer have to call 911 to get backup from Detroit Police. Mayor Kenneth Cockrel Jr. says the catalyst for the partnership was a shooting near Henry Ford High last year that left one student dead and three other teens injured.
