Mount Vernon district says state should not have approved opening of Amani Public Charter School

From The New York Times: In an effort to block a new charter school from operating, the Mount Vernon (N.Y.) City School District has gone so far as to sue the New York State Education Department and the school. The Amani Public Charter School received approval from the state earlier this year open, and classes began in August, but the district has refused to turn over state, federal and local aid money to Amani. The state has begun providing funds to the charter directly.
