Jefferson Parish (La.) district sees potential yearly savings of $5.6 million

The Jefferson Parish (La.) school district estimates that it could save $5.6 million annually by scrapping its transportation department and outsourcing bus service to a private contractor. Some board members are surprised by the potential savings, but they have not pursued privatization, which could pose dire consequences for the district's 231 bus owner-operators.
