East Coast earthquake closes some schools

From The Washington Post: Public schools in Washington, D.C., and Prince George’s County, Md., are closed today as a precaution after an earthquake rattled the region. Officials are conducting safety inspections at school facilities throughout the Washington area. D.C. School Chancellor Kaya Henderson said, “[W]e felt it would be best to have qualified structural engineers thoroughly inspect all 126 school buildings.” Some minor damage was reported at schools in Northern Virginia, but most districts in that area aren't scheduled to begin classes until after Labor Day.
