Economic conditions persuade many Ohio district to skip tax elections

Aug. 17, 2009
Officials say they need more money, but will hold off on referendums until economy improves

From The Cincinnati Enquirer: Facing an economically stormy forecast, some school districts in Ohio are choosing to forgo the November elections. The Lakota, Mason, Fairfield, Kings, Princeton and Forest Hills districts say they need more money but they hope calmer financial waters next year will make voters more likely to approve tax increases. But as the deadline for placing school tax issues on the ballot approaches, Little Miami Schools and Winton Woods schools are among the districts that say they cannot afford to wait -- no matter how tough the times.
