Obama backs using federal funds to prevent large-scale teacher layoffs

From The Washington Post: The Obama administration has thrown its support behind a $23 billion measure intended to avert large-scale teacher layoffs. With state and local budgets in dire shape following the economic downturn, U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan is urging Congress to approve the $23 billion to help schools out of their fiscal jam.

APRIL 2010...from The Washington Post: U.S. Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa has proposed a $23 billion bailout to help public schools across the nation avert widespread layoffs. The Obama administration immediately expressed support for an education jobs bill to help states through fiscal crisis.
