El Paso (Texas) district fails to pass tax increase

From The El Paso Times: Voters in the El Paso (Texas) district have rejected a tax proposal that would have brought in $37 million for the district. Officials say the money was needed to meet new state mandates and increase salaries. The levy increase would have meant $17.5 million in local tax money and $19.5 million from the state. In the wake of the defeat, El Paso is looking at the possibility of closing three elementary schools.
