From The Elgin Courier News: School District U46 in Elgin, Ill., would need to spend more than $300 million to get all of its buildings up to par. Projected capital projects — from equipping schools with the latest technology to installing new roofing — total $300.5 million, according to a study conducted by outside consultants. The report says there are 103 permanent buildings in U46, built between 1880 and 2004. Thirty-eight percent of them were built in the last 25 years; 50 percent were constructed between 1954 and 1983; and 13 percent were constructed prior to 1953.
