Elgin, Ill., high schools will conduct random weapon checks

Students at all six high schools in Elgin (Ill.) Unit District 46 will undergo random checks for weapons beginning next month. Officials are rolling out the program after a brutal attack on a teacher in January. Students at Elgin High School have undergone random weapons checks in classrooms twice a month since 1992, but the program will be expanded to the district's other five high schools.
