Enrollment boost catches Seattle district off guard

Unexpected increase leads to crowding problems at several campuses

From The Seattle Times: Enrollment in Seattle Public Schools is climbing, but officials haven't prepared for it — resulting in crowding at several schools. The district's 2011 head count shows this year's enrollment is about 1,500 students higher than last — a 3 percent increase. In West and Northeast Seattle, where the growth is largest, class sizes are up and some teachers are leading classes in cafeterias and auditoriums.
