Erie, Kan., high school earns LEED gold certification

Erie Charter High School in Erie, Kan., has received gold LEED certification for its environmentally friendly design and construction. The project is the first K-12 facility in Kansas to received a gold LEED rating. The single-level facility benefits from daylight through windows and skylights. The workspaces have individual lighting controls and controllable thermal systems to facilitate a healthful and comfortable learning environment. Each classroom has its own devices to monitor temperature, humidity, and carbon dioxide. The building site itself was selected for its environmental opportunities, and is situated out of the flood plain
