Former school bookkeeper charged with embezzlement

More than $20,000 taken from school accounts in Wake County, N.C.

A former Wake County, N.C., school bookkeeper has been charged with embezzling $20,953 from field trips, athletic events and other school activities. Kristie L. Mitchell, 40, is accused of embezzling the money between 2005 and 2007 while working at Conn Elementary School and later at Leesville Road Middle School.
