Officials say district will have to close 10 to 12 campuses in the next 3 years

From The Sacramento Bee: The Sacramento City Unified District will close four schools at the end of the 2008-2009 school year . The board has decided to shutter Genesis High School and Thomas Jefferson, Alice Birney, and Lisbon elementary schools. Mark Hopkins Elementary was spared from closing immediately, but it is scheduled to be closed at the end of the 2009-10 school year. Interim District Superintendent Susan Miller says the district will have to close 10 to 12 schools in the next three years because of declining enrollment and budget shortfalls.
