Patrons of tiny Oregon district prefer painful cuts to consolidation

From The Portland Oregonian: The 465-student Gaston (Ore.) school district must slash up to $950,000 from its budget next year, but residents say they want to keep the school alive on life support instead of sending students to a larger neighboring district.


Earlier...from The Portland Oregonian: Even after cutting 10 days this school year to balance its budget, the Gaston (Ore.) district, a tiny 465-student system, needs to make drastic cuts to balance its 2011-12 budget. Gaston administrators say options including consolidation, privatization of services, and sharing certain services with another district. If district officials choose consolidation, they'll likely approach Forest Grove or Yamhill Carlton about taking in Gaston's students.
