Georgia governor vetoes college construction projects

Planning funds for science facility at University of Georgia are rejected

FromThe Athens Banner-Herald: GeorgiaGov. Nathan Deal has vetoed planning money for a Science Learning Centerat the University of Georgia as well as funding forother college construction projects. The university had asked for $3.2 million to plan the center, a science-oriented facility with classrooms, lab space and study areas. Construction is projected to cost $45 million to $50 million. Deal also vetoed other projects on campuses around the state, including $9.9 million to begin building a science center at Clayton State University, $7.8 million for a health science building at Valdosta State University, $4.9 million for building renovation at Georgia College and State Universityin Milledgeville, and several other buildings at colleges around the state.
