Graduate school enrollment declines

From The New York Times: New enrollment in graduate schools fell in 2011, the second consecutive year of decline, according to a report from the Council of Graduate Schools. The declines followed surges in enrollment in 2008 and 2009; those increases were attributed to unemployed workers who opted to return to school. Now some are attributing the decline in graduate school enrollment to prospective students' unwillingness to take on more debt to pay for their education. Also, state budget cuts have forced public institutions to reduce aid for graduate students.
