County officials are interested in working with South Salt Lake to transform the soon-to-be-shuttered school grounds, but do have a funding source to carry out their ideas.

From The Salt Lake Tribune: Emotions were high as parents of students at Granite High School in Salt Lake City, Utah, urged the Granite school board not to close the school. Overhead on the 100-year-old building, and $20 million to $25 million in needed safety upgrades, are luxuries that the district can ill afford, district officials say. The board must shave $28 million from its budget; shuttering Granite High would free up $1.3 million. On a per-student basis, overhead at Granite High is about three times the district average for other high schools. Enrollment has languished at about 300 students. The board will decide the school's fate next month.
