Helmets are now required in Grapevine-Colleyville (Texas) school district batting cages, as part of new safety rules put in place after a student's death. The changes, effective immediately, come three days after Grapevine High School junior Chris Gavora died after being struck in the back of the head by a baseball. The 17-year-old varsity player was pitching in the batting cages and was not wearing a helmet. Batting helmets will be required for district athletes, visiting teams and the general public. Signs about the new requirement will be posted outside the district's three batting cages.
