Furlough days, class-size hikes in store for Gwinnett County (Ga.) district

From The Atlanta Journal-Constitution: The Gwinnett County (Ga.) school board has approved a 2012 budget that calls for two unpaid furlough days for most employees, two additional students per class and 585 fewer people on the payroll. The $1.2 billion spending plan is $60.6 million less than this year's. The largest share of the savings -- $43 million -- will come from leaving 585 jobs vacant. Those positions are employees -- mostly teachers – that have retired, resigned or transferred.
